Faculty Spotlight: Michelle Smietana
WSD Fifth Grade Teacher
I am elated to be part of the Weilenmann educational team. I am excited about the opportunity, and look forward to meeting everyone in person, especially my new fifth grade class.I have taught at the Middle School level for 17 years, and every year has contributed experiences that help me with the next year’s class. I am originally from Chicago, Illinois, where I attained both my Bachelor’s and Master’s in Elementary Education. I taught for 10 years in the suburbs of Chicago, before deciding to move west to be closer to my family. I am looking forward to my move from Phoenix to Park City for both professional and personal reasons. My philosophy of education and that of Weilenmann are in complete agreement. I believe in giving students the opportunity to discover and create their own learning, with guidance and support. Moving to Park City also comes with the benefit of being a part of the daily lives of my two beautiful nieces.
In my spare time, I enjoy hiking with my dog, Dakota, reading, hanging out with family and friends, and finding a good deal. Recently, I have also incorporated running into my recreational time. Last year I completed two half-marathons, and am currently training for my third. Although, skiing might take the place of running this year!
The 2010-2011 school year is going to be great, and I look forward to meeting the students, parents, and faculty that will help make it a success.
