Principal
Mary Kimball has been a teacher and administrator in the elementary setting for over twenty years. Since receiving her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, she has taught in all grade levels from Pre-Kindergarten to Fifth Grade in both public and independent schools. Her professional background includes experience in some of the state’s most diverse schools, where she has gained experience in special education, curriculum development, literacy and gifted education. Her passion for curriculum design has led her to develop programs for reading, science, outdoor skills, gifted education, parent & character education, and teacher mentoring.
 
Throughout her career, Mary has been an active member of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the International Reading Association, and the Utah and National Associations for Gifted Children. She has also served on the board of the Independent Schools Association for the Central States, and as Science Specialist and Mentoring Committee Chair at the Sayre School of Lexington, KY. She currently serves as the Lower Schools Director at the Waterford School in Sandy, Utah, a position she has treasured since 2005. Prior to this appointment, she served as the school’s Nursery Program Curriculum Coordinator, redeveloping curriculum and program for Pre-Kindergarten students ages three and four. In 2006 she was recognized for being “a teacher first, a teacher always,” and awarded the Waterford Educator Prize.
 
Mary is a lifelong learner who resides in Salt Lake City, Utah, with her husband, two daughters, and assorted pets. She loves children, the color green, and getting lost in a book.

Cynthia Phillips, Middle School Dean
 
Cynthia Phillips has been a teacher and administrator in secondary education for twenty-four years. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Latin with a minor in Ancient Greek, a Master of Arts degree in Classics, and is currently a candidate for a Master of Arts degree in Ancient History. Mrs. Phillips has taught students ranging from fifth to twelfth grade in a variety of Latin, history, and English courses. Her professional background includes experience as a Middle School Dean, an Upper School Dean, and a Director of Teacher Mentoring. Mrs. Phillips has spent her career designing curricula, developing systems of student support, addressing issues of student life, mentoring teachers, and teaching students.
 
Throughout her career, Cynthia has been an active member of the American Classical League, the Classical Association of the Middle West and South, and the Utah Classical Association. She is a new member of the American Association of Ancient Historians and has served as the Chairman of the Utah Committee of the Tufts Alumni Admissions Program since 1994. She currently teaches history, English, and Latin at the Waterford School in Sandy, Utah where she has taught since 1986. In 2003 she was awarded the Waterford Educator Prize.
 
Cynthia has three sons and two daughters. She currently resides in Sandy, Utah with her husband and family. She loves children, sports, music, and books. She is expecting her first grandchild in July.
