School Fees and Fee Waivers
The Fee Waiver Application and income eligibility guidelines for 2010 - 2011 will be available from the Utah State Office of Education after July 1, 2010. Weilenmann School of Discovery will post its board-approved school fees schedule after August 1, 2010. The following are some frequently asked questions regarding school fees and school fee waivers:
- What is the definition of a fee?
Fees can be in the form of money or goods and are considered to be any charge, deposit, rental or other mandatory payment. Payments to third parties such as admission fees or transportation expenses may also be fees. - Who is eligible for fee waivers?
Inability to pay is presumed for those who are in state custody or foster care, or receiving public assistance in the form of Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC), or Supplemental Security Income (applies only to the child receiving SSI), or are eligible for free school lunch. - Why are fee waivers available to qualifying students?
To ensure that no student is denied the opportunity to participate in programs, courses or activities because of an inability to pay the required fee, deposit, or charge. - Are students in grades K-6 required to provide their own supplies?
No, the supplies (paper, pencils, folders, etc.) that are needed in the regular classroom are all provided by the school. - Are charges related to the school lunch program considered fees?
No, school lunch charges are not considered fees. However, milk or snacks for elementary students that are furnished to all students will not be charged. - Will elementary students be charged for lost or damaged supplies?
Yes, students will be responsible to pay for or replace items they have lost or damaged. - Can 6th graders included in the Middle School program with 7th and 8th graders be charged textbook fees?
No. Textbook fees or other board-approved fees will be charged only to students in grades 7 and 8. - Can fees be charged for activities outside of the regular school day?
Fees may be charged in connection with school-sponsored activities that do not take place during the regular school day, regardless of the age or grade level of the student. Fee waivers always apply, even for these “optional” activities. - Is there a limit to the cost of fees that may be charged for students to participate in school sponsored activities, clubs, or programs?|
Yes, those limits will be defined in our board-approved fees policy, and posted every year.
